And so it was, DEP International was born, the UB's soon got to work, releasing
their first album on their new label, Present
Arms. This album included the hit single "One In Ten". A dub version of Present Arms was also
released, which became the first ever Dub album to enter the national charts, another
first for UB40. The third album titled UB44 was
released, the first copies of the album had an Hologram embossed onto the sleeve, the
first time this method of mass producing holograms had ever been used.
Then came UB40's first #1 single. From the album Labour Of Love, the single "Red Red
Wine" was released in August 1983. "Red Red Wine" was probably the single
that really shot UB40 to international stardom, it is, to this day, still a
favorite of
all fans and still gets plenty of airplay on the Radio.
From the album UB40 released a short film by the same name, containing amateurish
but excellent acting performances from all UB40 members. The video was produced and co -
written by UB40's saxophonist Brian Travers who has since taken charge of all UB40's
videos. From the album Labour Of Love a string of hits came such as "Please Don't
Make Me Cry" and "Many Rivers To Cross".
Following the release of LOL, UB40 released the album Geffrey Morgan, from which the single "If
It Happens Again" was released entering the UK Chart at #9. The Album was produced at
the Abattoir, UB40's own recording studios in Birmingham. The name Abattoir was retained
by UB40 after the studios were converted from a derelict slaughter house.
