During the first 6 Months of 1985 UB40 toured America and Canada and in August of that year they celebrated their second #1 single. "I Got You Babe" a cover of the famous Soni & Cher hit, featured Chrissie Hynde, from the Pretenders. This was to be the first of 2 hits UB40 would record with Chrissie now a close friend and ally of the UB's. The single came from the album Baggariddim which included the hit single "Don't Break My Heart" which reached #3 in the UK charts.
Back to the studio in 1986 UB40 started work on their 9th album. Rat In The Kitchen, released on July 28th followed the release of "Sing Our Own Song" which reached #5 in the UK charts. Following this UB40 were back on tour, they were invited to play in the former USSR, the first British band to do so. playing dates in Leningrad and Moscow.
A video titled "UB40 CCCP The Video Mix" was released following the tour and featured live footage of the concerts. Winter 1986 brought the UB's back home to a tour in the UK with dates in Birmingham, Glasgow and Newcastle.
The next 2 years was to be a busy period for UB40, playing various dates around the world between working in the studio on new material. In 1988 UB40 released their second single featuring Chrissie Hynde, "Breakfast In Bed" which was from the album titled simply UB40. In the July of that year UB40 set off on their most ambitious tour to date. Taking in countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Brazil and Argentina, also playing in countries not yet graced by UB40 which included Abu Dhabi, Dubia and Israel. The tour lasted almost a full 12 months and ended on June 10th 1989.
Back to the studio's to work on yet another installment of the well loved Labour Of Love Series.
